Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has intensified its voter mobilisation drive in Gombe State with a call on traditional and religious leaders to support the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and ensure the collection of their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

The resident electoral commissioner (REC) for Gombe State, Dr. Sa’ad Umar, made the appeal during a c visit to the emir of Gombe and chairman of the Gombe State Council of Emirs and Chiefs, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, at his palace.

Umar commended the emir for his consistent support to the commission, recalling his past contributions to voter education, including recording and airing advocacy messages that promoted CVR, PVC collection and peaceful elections in the state.

Briefing the emir on the current exercise, the REC disclosed that online pre-registration began on 18th August, 2025, while in-person registration commenced on 25th August, 2025. He expressed concern over the more than 60,000 uncollected PVCs in the state, urging traditional and religious institutions to mobilise the citizens to participate actively in the process.

Responding, the emir pledged the full backing of the Gombe Emirate Council and the State Council of Emirs and Chiefs, directing all district and village heads to summon local religious and traditional leaders for grassroots sensitisation. He also underscored the importance of women’s participation in the electoral process.
