Gunmen suspected to be herders have displaced over 300 persons and set ablaze 30 homes in the last few days across 10 communities in Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The director of press and publicity to the chairman of Qua’an-Pan LGA, Danaan Cletus Sylvanus, confirmed the sad incident in a statement made available to newsmen in Jos.
According to him, the affected communities in Doemak District include Nteng, Doop, Zhep Morop, Gyeergu, Kelaghan, Loon, Kwakii, and Gorom.

He explained that the attacks occurred at the end of August, just as residents were preparing to harvest their crops from their farms.

The gunmen also destroyed farm barns, he added.

The statement disclosed that Christopher Manship, Chairman of Qua’an-Pan LGA, lamented the attacks and urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, and development associations to work with him toward a permanent solution.

During a security meeting held at Doemak, the chairman said security agencies had been promptly mobilised to the affected areas to ensure the situation was brought under control.

“We are working tirelessly to restore peace and normalcy to the communities. The stakeholders’ meeting is convened to address the recent attacks on some communities in the local government area,” he said.
While addressing the non-conventional security outfits at Nteng, Manship called on them to stand united and support government security agencies as they work to restore peace to the communities.

He assured the displaced persons that his administration was working assiduously to ensure their safe return to their homes and that everything possible was being done to restore peace and normalcy to the affected communities.

The Acting President of Qua’an-Pan Traditional Council, Engr. Safiyanu Allahnanan, was said to have visited the communities affected by the attacks and urged security agencies to remain vigilant and proactive to demonstrate their commitment to the welfare and safety of residents.
