The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has honoured Hon. Dennis Guwor, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly (DSHA), with an Award of Excellence in Sports. This recognition celebrates his dedication to promoting sports activities within Delta State and his collaboration with sports journalists across the country.
Comrade Isaiah Benjamin, President of SWAN, praised Guwor for his unwavering commitment to sports development, stating that the award serves to motivate him to further enhance his contributions to the industry. As part of this honour, Guwor has also been inducted as an associate member of SWAN, entitling him to all rights and privileges associated with the membership.
Benjamin reflected on the success of SWAN’s recent convention in Asaba, highlighting the vital support provided by the Speaker, which contributed significantly to the event’s achievements.
He applauded Guwor’s exemplary leadership as Speaker of the 8th Assembly, assuring him of the association’s steadfast support for the state legislature.
In response to receiving the award, Speaker Guwor expressed his gratitude and joy at the recognition from SWAN. He thanked the national leadership of the association for acknowledging his efforts in sports development and for deeming him worthy of such an honour.
Describing himself as a passionate sports enthusiast, Guwor reaffirmed his commitment to fostering sustainable partnerships and collaborations with SWAN and other sports-oriented organisations, with the goal of advancing sports in the region.
He further emphasised that under his leadership, the 8th Assembly would continue to enhance its involvement in sporting activities within the state, asserting that this accolade would inspire him to encourage greater participation in sports development throughout Delta State and beyond.
