Why We Expelled Kano Lawmaker Jubrin – NNPP

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State has expelled House of Representatives member, Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, citing allegations of disloyalty and outstanding financial obligations to the party.
State party chairman Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa announced the decision at a press conference in Kano yesterday, saying Jibrin’s continued public criticism of the party and its leadership influenced their action.
According to Dungurawa, the legislator owes his political success entirely to the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the NNPP platform rather than his own political prowess.

“His electoral victory came through our party’s support, not his individual strength. Under APC, he couldn’t secure a win, but NNPP made him a federal legislator,” Dungurawa stated.

The party chief revealed that reconciliation efforts were initially attempted following Jibrin’s controversial appearance on Channels TV. However, subsequent media statements by the lawmaker demonstrated his unwillingness to remain loyal to party interests.

“Rather than engage in constructive dialogue, he chose to publicly pledge allegiance elsewhere. This behavior left us with no choice but expulsion,” Dungurawa explained.

Beyond the loyalty issues, the NNPP leadership also accused Jibrin of consistently failing to remit mandatory membership dues, highlighting its intention to pursue legal remedies to recover these outstanding payments.

“Court action is inevitable. Constitutional provisions require all members to fulfill their financial obligations, which he has repeatedly ignored,” the chairman noted.

Addressing rumors of Jibrin’s potential return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dungurawa dismissed any concerns about weakening the NNPP’s position, emphasising that the Kwankwasiyya Movement remained firmly united under Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s leadership.
