The National Union of Bauchi State Students (NUBASS) has confirmed that Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed’s administration has disbursed N800 million as part of the 2024/2025 scholarship scheme to indigent students across the country.

Speaking at a press conference in Bauchi on Monday, NUBASS national president, Comrade Bello Ibrahim Aliyu, described the development as “historic in both magnitude and impact,” stressing that the payment represents renewed trust in government’s commitment to education.

According to him, out of the approved N945.25 million for the scheme, N801.26 million has already been disbursed to 19,546 verified beneficiaries drawn from 154 tertiary institutions nationwide. He added that the outstanding balance of ₦145.25 million would soon be cleared.

“For too long, scholarship payments had been marred by doubt, delay, and disappointment.

But today, under the compassionate leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed, it has become a source of renewed hope and confidence,” Aliyu said.

The NUBASS president noted that the intervention has eased the burden of tuition, examination fees, and living costs for thousands of students, adding that the scheme is the largest of its kind in Bauchi State’s history.

Aliyu further commended the governor for complementing the home-based scholarship with foreign sponsorships, citing the recent sponsorship of 100 students to China for advanced studies as a “visionary step toward global competitiveness.”

Beyond scholarship matters, the union also highlighted strides in security interventions around tertiary institutions, the renovation of its secretariat, and student empowerment initiatives such as free JAMB pin distribution and the maiden EDUTECH Conference.

“Governor Bala Mohammed has written his name in gold in the history of Bauchi State education,” Aliyu declared, while assuring students that NUBASS would continue to advocate for their welfare.
