Egbe community in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State was thrown into tension on Thursday as residents staged a protest over rising insecurity and the recent killings that have unsettled the area.

The demonstration followed a disturbing wave of violent attacks, with residents expressing fear and frustration over what they described as deteriorating security conditions.

Egbe, which shares a border with Kwara State, had long been known as one of the most peaceful and industrious communities in Kogi West, but the recent incidents have left the town on edge.

The protest came on the heels of the killing of three police officers by unknown gunmen at a checkpoint in the community.

Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kogi State Command, SP William Ovye Aya, told journalists in Lokoja that the attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday.

“Yes, I can confirm to you that three of our officers on duty were killed today in Egbe; a border community with Kwara State, by yet to be identified gunmen,” SP Aya said.
