Operatives of Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have recovered 150 blocks and three sacks of cannabis sativa weighing 112 kilograms in an accident that occurred along the Zaria-Kano Road.
Spokesperson of the Command, Sadiq Maigatari, in a statement, disclosed that the incident occurred around 6am on Saturday September 6, 2025, near Tamburawa Bridge when NDLEA patrol officers responded to a an accident involving a Volkswagen Golf car and a truck.
Maigatari said while providing emergency assistance, officers discovered the substantial drug cache hidden in the car.
“Officers immediately rushed to the scene to render first aid and effect rescues.
“The team had to remove the windscreen and force open doors to extract both occupants from the damaged vehicle.
“During the rescue operation, the passenger attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended by officers,” he explained.
According to Maigatari, a thorough search of the vehicle revealed the large quantity of cannabis concealed inside the car, and upon interrogation, the driver admitted to acting as a representative for the drug consignor and confessed to making similar deliveries within and outside Kano State.
Maigatari also highlighted that the golf driver was currently receiving medical treatment and assisting with investigations while the truck driver sustained fractures in the accident.
While reiterating the unwavering commitment of the Command to combating drug trafficking, Maigatari quoted the State Commander, AI Ahmad of commending the patrol officers’ professional conduct and urged the public to report suspicious drug-related activities to authorities.
