The six-month state of emergency imposed on Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu over protracted political crisis in March this year has been described as “lawlessness”, which will be punished by people of Niger Delta in the 2027 elections.

This was disclosed by a former media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie, while reacting to the lifting of the emergency rule on the South-South State on Wednesday.

LEADERSHIP reports that President Tinubu, in a personally signed statement earlier on Wednesday, lifted the state of emergency and restored political officeholders, including Govenor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, to their positions.

However, in a warning message to the President, Onochie said the people of the Niger Delta zone will respond to Tinubu’s action, considered by some as illegal and favouring his Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, through their votes in the forthcoming 2027 general election.

Taking to her verified Facebook page on Wednesday night, Lauretta Onochie wrote: “Tinubu Never thought that the 6 months of hell he illegally and unconstitutionally imposed on Rivers State will come to an end. That lawlessness will be punished in 2027 by Niger Delltans. We are set.”
