Cristiano Ronaldo was honoured with the “Best of All Time” award by the Portuguese Football League on Wednesday. The Portugal captain, who is the highest scorer in men’s international football with 141 goals in 223 appearances, has added yet another individual accolade to his illustrious career.

“An idol to millions, he defined an era and will leave an indelible mark on world football,” Liga Portugal stated. “CR7 was recognised with the “Best of All Time” award, a fitting tribute to the golden pages he continues to write throughout his career.

“Renowned for his work ethic, competitiveness, and decisiveness in critical moments, Cristiano Ronaldo’s impact extends far beyond statistics. Through individual records, collective titles, and media influence, he has built a legacy that establishes him as… The Best Ever.”

A five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Ronaldo, 40, was unable to attend the ceremony in Porto but sent a video expressing his gratitude. “I want to thank the League for this award for best player of all time,” said the Al Nassr forward. “As you can imagine, it’s a huge honour for me to win something for my country.

I’d like to thank all my teammates who have supported me throughout my career, the coaches, and everyone who has helped me become better.”

Earlier this week, Ronaldo became the joint-top goalscorer in World Cup qualifying history during Portugal’s 3-2 victory at Hungary. He scored from the penalty spot, netting his 39th goal in World Cup qualifying, thus equalling Carlos Ruiz’s record from Guatemala.

Viktor Gyökeres was named the Portuguese League’s Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. The Sweden forward joined Arsenal this summer after two successful years at Sporting CP, during which he scored 54 goals across all competitions last season, the most by a player at a top-flight club. His 39 league goals were crucial in helping Sporting defend their league title last season.

“I’m truly honoured to receive this amazing award for the best player of the season in Liga Portugal for 2024-25,” Gyökeres stated in a video. “I want to thank all the players, staff, and fans at Sporting who made this possible with your support throughout the season. It was an unforgettable season together, winning both the league and the cup.”
