Abia NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel Elects New Leaders

‎‎Abia State council of Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has elected a new leadership headed by Vanguard Newspapers correspondent, Steve Oko.

‎‎Oko emerged alongside other members of the leadership unopposed on Friday during the chapel’s 2025 triennial conference in Umuahia, the state capital.

‎‎The others are Henrietta Ifeanyi Ashikodi of Statesman Newspapers as secretary and Imo Thomas Ejikeme of Standard Times Newspaper. The other offices will be filled later.

‎‎Swearing them in, the council chairman, Chidi Asonye, charged them to be guided by the ethics and to help in strengthening the profession further in the state.

‎‎Asonye, who described the chapel as the engine room of the council, congratulated and charged them to unite and carry the members along always.

In his acceptance speech, Oko appreciated the members for the confidence they reposed in them, assuring that they will not let them down.

 

‎The chairman promised to prioritise the welfare of the members and to promote harmonious relationship between the chapel and the council

‎The past chairman, Obinna Ibe noted that his tenure recorded noticeable achievements despite some challenges confronting the chapel.

‎‎He expressed delight with the members support for him, the peaceful transition, and  wished the leadership a peaceful and successful tenure.

‎‎Speaking earlier, the chairman of the Credentials Committee, Uche Nwosu, said the leadership emerged in strict compliance with the NUJ Constitution .
