Housing Development Advocacy Network (HDAN) has asked the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to drop its broom logo and adopt a house as its new symbol.

The executive director of HDAN, Festus Adebayo, said the broom, once used to represent the fight against corruption, no longer inspires confidence among Nigerians.

Speaking on Housing TV Africa, and made available to LEADERSHIP, Adebayo noted that the country’s urgent housing crisis makes the house a more meaningful emblem for the party.

“The broom may have been a good symbol for sweeping away corruption, but today Nigerians need roofs over their heads,” he said.

He challenged the APC to show real commitment to development by changing its logo and making housing delivery a central part of its agenda.

According to him, millions of low-income Nigerians remain without decent homes, trapped in slums or unable to afford rising rents.

Adebayo stressed that building affordable houses is not just social responsibility but also economic necessity. “Every home built creates jobs and boosts GDP,” he added.

He urged political leaders to set measurable housing targets and work with private developers to close Nigeria’s 28 million housing deficit.

The HDAN boss argued that replacing the broom with a house symbol would constantly remind leaders that shelter is both a fundamental right and a driver of progress.

His comments have since sparked debate among housing advocates, with many describing the call as bold and symbolic.
