Ember Months: Police Order Banks To Install Functional CCTV Cameras In Delta

Determined to ensure a crime-free ember months, Delta State Police Command has ordered banks in the state to install advanced and functional CCTV cameras in their banking environment

Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, gave the directive Tuesday in Asaba when he convened a strategic security meeting with members of the Bankers’ Forum in the state.

In attendance was the Chief Security Officer of Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN), Asaba branch and 39 head of banks across the state.

The CP who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, noted that it was important for bankers to take adequate security measures to checkmate the activities of criminals who may want to take advantage of the festive period.

He said the meeting was aimed at addressing the security of banks ahead of the yuletide season that was fast approaching.

DCP Adejobi reiterated the Command’s commitment to the fight against crime and criminality in the state, noting that the meeting was just the beginning in the proactive measures being taken by the Command to ensure a crime-free ember months.

“The installation of advanced and functional CCTV cameras in the banking environment is very important to support the effort of the police in monitoring what goes on in the banking environment.

He said, “In a proactive move, aware of the fact that we are already in the ember months which in the past have witnessed increased influx of people into the state and also likely increased activities of criminals.

“Aware of the fact that the Command and Asaba are bounded by the East, Edo and other parts of the country, it is important for these security strategies to be reviewed.”

The CBN Chief Security Officer in Delta State, Mrs Evangeline Patrick, who spoke on behalf of others, commended the Command for the initiative and stated that the apex bank does not release cash to banks without adequate number of armed policemen on special escort.
