The Central Working Committee of the 2025 All Nigerian Ethnic Nationalities Youths Conference has commended President Bola Tinubu for conferring a posthumous national honour on the late environmental rights activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa.

Tinubu recently conferred the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) award on the Ogoni-born freedom fighter, nearly three decades after his execution by the late Gen. Sani Abacha junta.

The youths described the honour as a long-overdue recognition of Saro-Wiwa’s struggles for justice, environmental protection and human rights.

In a statement jointly signed by the chairman, Comrade Matthew Dighi; secretary, Mazi Chidiebere Nwodo; and treasurer, Nwada Ebere Dickson, the committee said the 2025 conference would commemorate Saro-Wiwa’s legacy while envisioning “a new Nigeria that reflects our collective aspirations and ideals.”

The group said more than 250 delegates from different ethnic nationalities would gather to engage in dialogue and seek a partnership with Tinubu’s administration.

According to the statement, the event would feature lectures by national and international activists, including voices from Kenya whose advocacy has gained global recognition.
