NPFL: Delta Sports Commission Suspends Warri Wolves’ Coach After Home Defeat

The Delta State Sports Commission (DSSC) has suspended the Head Coach of Warri Wolves Football Club, Mr Aluma Napoleon, with immediate effect.

In a letter dated 29 September 2025, reference number DSSC.32/11/91, signed by Okonma Franca on behalf of the Executive Chairman, the suspension was linked to the club’s poor performance.

The suspended coach has been directed to hand over all official documents and responsibilities to the assistant coach, Mr Jonny Austin, who will take charge of the team until further notice.

“This decision became necessary due to the club’s underperformance, especially following their recent promotion to the Nigeria Premier League,” the statement read.

The commission reassured fans and stakeholders of its commitment to repositioning the club for improved performance and sustainable success.

Warri Wolves recently faced a home defeat, losing 2-1 to the visiting Shooting Stars Sports Football Club in their Day 6 match, played at the Southern Delta University Stadium in Ozoro.

The match, which remained goalless in the first half, came to life after the interval when player No. 31, Igbimi, scored in the 54th minute. Just as the game appeared to be nearing its conclusion, 3SC secured a two-goal lead with player No. 12, Qatar Adegoke, scoring in the 82nd minute, followed by player No. 7, Adams Agba, who netted in the 86th minute.

Coach Napoleon commented, “Tactically, we faced a challenge today because even though a goalkeeper may catch the ball, the defenders must react promptly. A quicker reaction could have salvaged both situations. However, it’s all part of the game; you lose some, win some, and draw some,” he added.

Despite the result, the Warri Wolves coach congratulated 3SC, acknowledging their well-deserved victory. “Any team can win anywhere.

With this experience, I’m confident we will perform better in our next match against Barau FC, but first, we must address our shortcomings before we go out to compete.”

In a separate interview, 3SC’s coach, Aweroro Nurudeen, explained that substituting players was part of the game plan. “Every coach aspires to win all matches. It was intentional to bring Adams on towards the end of the game. I’m thrilled with today’s performance. We executed a strong transition game and were clinical in our attacks. I’m delighted we won,” he stated.
