UNICEF, GPE Support Education Devt In 9 Adamawa LGAs

United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in collaboration with Global Partnership for Education (GPE) is supporting the development and validation of Local Educational Sector Operational Plan (LESO) in nine local government areas to reduce the number of out-of-school children in Adamawa State.

The plan is focused at reducing high pupil, classroom ratio and pupil, teacher ratio in the state.

UNICEF Education Consultant, Mr Joel Jutum told LEADERSHIP that the validation of 2023-2025 state education sector operation plan, would resolve educational challenges which needed to begin with proper plan, challenges identification and proffering of solutions.

He decried lack of proper supervision of schools by the Quality Assurance Units of Ministry of Education and State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, even as he urged for effective mobilization of resources to breach the gap in the system.

“There is a need for the government to prioritize access to education, sustainability of structure, especially in the hard-to-reach areas,” he said.

He, however, lauded the consistency in the employment of teachers by the state government.

Earlier, in her opening address, commissioner for education and human capital development, Wulbina Jackson, reiterated government commitment to institutionalise SESOP as critical education sector policy document.

Wulbina, assured of timely implementation of and review of SESOP to build shared ownership by the state actors in education.

Hong, Girei, Mubi-North, Guyuk Michika, Mubi-South, Guyuk, Yola-North and Yola-South had  their LESO plans validated.
