Several communities in Sabon-Birni local government area of Sokoto state have been severely affected by flooding, leading to the destruction of houses, farmlands and other valuable properties worth millions of naira.
The incident followed days of heavy rainfall.
The worst affected is Makuwana community, an area largely plagued by incessant banditry attacks.
According to local authorities, the disaster has affected several residents and caused extensive damage to livelihoods, particularly in farming communities that rely on subsistence agriculture.
Due to prevailing insecurity challenges in the area, access to the affected community remains limited, further complicating immediate relief efforts.
The Sabon-Birni Local Government Authority and affected residents have appealed to the Sokoto State Government, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other humanitarian organisations for urgent assistance.
They listed urgent needs to include shelter materials, food items and non-food relief supplies to cushion the impact of the disaster on vulnerable households.
