The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the death of two teenage boys who drowned while swimming in a stream at Hayin Yawa Gada, Tudun Wada local government area of the state.
Public Relations Officer of the Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, in a statement, revealed that the incident occurred on Thursday, October 9, 2025, around 2p.m.
According to the Abdullahi, the Tudun Wada Fire Station’s Emergency Response Unit received a distress call from a Hisbah official, who reported that two boys identified as Habu Sani and Haruna Isah, both about 15 years old had drowned in a stream that runs beneath a major bridge in the area.
“Upon arrival, our men found that the two victims had entered the waterway for local swimming and got drowned. They were rescued unconscious but were later confirmed dead,” the Abdullahi said.
The bodies were subsequently handed over to Inspector Usaini Iliya of the Tudun Wada Police Division for further investigation.
In a separate development, the Fire Service also recovered the body of an unidentified person from a well at Jaba Masaka Shago Tara in Kano metropolis.
The statement explained that the incident was reported by the P&G Kwalli Police Division around 8:15 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025.
“Our men from the state headquarters were mobilised to the scene and successfully removed the body from the well. According to eyewitnesses, the body had been in the well for about four days before it was discovered,” Abdullahi said.
He added that the remains of the deceased were handed over to the Ward Head of the area, Ado Idris, for proper handling.
While expressing concern over the recurring incidents of drowning, the Director of the Fire Service, Sani Anas, appealed to parents and community leaders to monitor their children closely and prevent them from going near streams, puddles and other water bodies, especially during the rainy season.
