The Kano State Police Command has arrested nine suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate believed to be responsible for a series of violent robberies across Kano and Kaduna States up to Abuja.

Briefing journalists at the Command headquarters in Bompai, Kano, the State’s Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, disclosed that the suspects were arrested following a coordinated intelligence-led operation which was in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for all commands to intensify efforts against violent crimes.

According to him, the arrests followed an armed robbery incident that occurred on October 8, 2025, at Unguwar Wambai, Dorayi Babba Quarters, Kano, where a gang of robbers attacked a residence at about 2 a.m.

He explained that the criminals carted away a Toyota Yaris vehicle, a cash totalling N3.7million, mobile phones, and other valuables, after assaulting the victim’s wife and inflicting serious injuries on her.

“Following a swift response from Dorayi Division and the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), one suspect was initially apprehended, leading to the arrest of eight others in coordinated raids across Kano and Kaduna States,” he stated

Those arrested include: Abubakar Aminu (22), Aliyu Aliyu (23), Abubakar Usman (22), Sulaiman Sani (20), Yusuf Yusuf (17), Abdulrahman Aliyu (23), Salisu Hussaini (17), Sulaiman Abdullahi (20), and Abdulmutallib Sa’ad (24).

CP Bakori said the suspects confessed to multiple robberies in the two States and FCT and would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.

While noting that the Command’s ā€œOperation Kukan Kuraā€ initiative has significantly reduced crime rates in Kano State, particularly phone snatching and thuggery, the Police Commissioner commended his officers for their professionalism and bravery even as he lauded the public for providing vital intelligenceĀ toĀ theĀ Command.
