Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested one Igwe Samson ‘m’ 33 years and Abalum Sunday ‘m’ 39, suspected to be drug peddlers.
The operatives from the Crack Squad in Asaba, the state capital, who acted on credible intelligence on the suspects, stormed a hideout at Effurun, Government Reserved Area (GRA) and arrested them.
Upon the search of their Sienna vehicle, 450 bottles of CSP codeine, 188 bottles of bargadine, 208 sachets of tramadol 100mg, 300 sachets of swinol, 100 sachets of tramadol 500mg, 50 sachets of rophynol and a bag of weed suspected to be cannabis were recovered.
SP Edafe Bright, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects had been in the business for about two years, and usually buy the drugs at Onitsha and travel at night to evade arrest.
The suspects were taken into custody while efforts to arrest their suppliers and receivers are ongoing.
Similarly, the command rescued a kidnapped victim unhurt in Ovian Aladja, Delta State.
The divisional police officer (DPO), CSP Friday Ekundayo, at the police station received a distress call from a man (name withheld) that on the same date at about 0200hrs, while they were asleep, armed men broke into his apartment, attacked, robbed and kidnapped his wife.
Ekundayo, in a swift response, mobilised and led operatives of the division and went after the kidnappers with a view to ensuring that the woman was rescued unhurt and the suspects arrested. They trailed the kidnappers to a forest in Iyara community.
Following unrelenting effort from the DPO and his men, the kidnappers were forced to abandon the victim and escape.
