The Kano State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed the transfer of convicted Islamic scholar, Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara, to a custodial facility under federal control.

In a statement issued to journalists, the Command’s spokesperson, Musbahu K/Nassarawa, explained that the relocation was a routine administrative exercise conducted in line with the Nigerian Correctional Service Act, 2019, and guided by security, inmate classification, facility availability, and rehabilitation needs.

“The transfer of inmate Malam Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara to a custodial centre under federal jurisdiction is a standard procedure carried out in accordance with the Service’s operational guidelines and statutory responsibilities,” K/Nassarawa stated.

He emphasised that the transfer does not affect the cleric’s legal status, his rights of appeal, or access to legal representation.

“The welfare and legal rights of Malam Abduljabbar remain fully protected under Nigerian law. His relocation does not in any way interfere with his ongoing legal proceedings or his access to legal counsel,” he added.

K/Nassarawa reaffirmed that the Command remained committed to the safe custody, rehabilitation, and reformation of inmates in line with the Service’s mandate to ensure public safety.

LEADERSHIP recalls that in November 2022, an Upper Shariah Court in Kano convicted and sentenced Sheikh Abduljabbar Kabara to death by hanging after finding him guilty of blasphemy against the holy prophet of Islam. However, the cleric has since appealed the judgement, and the case remained before the higher court.
