Transmission Firm Commences Maintenance In Gombe

Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has e commenced a scheduled maintenance at its Gombe 132/33kV Transmission Substation, aimed at strengthening power supply reliability in the state.

According to a statement issued by the TCN’s spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, on X,  the maintenance work will take place from October 14 to 24, 2025, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. daily.

The power transmission firm explained that the exercise forms part of its nationwide preventive maintenance programme designed to ensure the sustained efficiency and safety of the national grid infrastructure.

Engineers will work specifically on the Shongo 33kV Feeder 8, where the company is expected to replace existing protection and control panels with modern equipment to enhance performance and reduce downtime.

While residents and business operators in Gombe State are expected to experience irregular electricity supply due to work involving the shutdown of feeders, TCN assured that there would be no load loss or bulk power interruption to electricity consumers served through the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) throughout the maintenance period.

Mbah stated that while work is ongoing, the load on Shongo 33kV Feeder will be transferred to the Darazo 33kV Feeder, and that of Mallam Sidi Feeder will be transferred to Doma 33kV Feeder 6 to ensure a continuous power supply to communities and facilities served by the two feeders.

“There will be no bulk power interruption to Jos Electricity Distribution Company all through the period of maintenance,” Mbah emphasised, adding that the proactive step aligns with TCN’s commitment to improve grid reliability and prevent unplanned outages.

The company further noted that the replacement of ageing control and protection systems at substations is critical to maintaining the stability of the transmission network and ensuring seamless coordination between transmission and distribution operators.

“This means that there will be no bulk power interruption to Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) all through the period of maintenance,” TCN added.
