President Bola Tinubu’s nominee for the chairmanship of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, is currently at the National Assembly, waiting to appear before Senators at a Committee of the Whole on Thursday afternoon.
Amupitan, who was accompanied to the parliament by Kogi State governor, Ahmed Ododo, and others, will be grilled by the lawmakers after presenting his profile to them ahead his confirmation or otherwise as the next INEC chairman.
LEADERSHIP reports that about 12.50pm, Amupitan was already seated in the Red Chamber waiting for the commencement of the exercise after being led into the Chamber by the presidential aide on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Abubakar Lado.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio welcomed the guests to the Red Chamber, including Amupitan himself, his family members and other well-wishers.
The screening process started shortly at about 12.55pm after the Senate President’s remarks to explain how the exercise will be carried out.
