Argentina captain Lionel Messi set a new record for the most assists in international football on Wednesday. The Inter Miami forward achieved this milestone by providing two assists against Puerto Rico in an international friendly at Chase Stadium.
Messi assisted two goals in his side’s 6-0 win, surpassing former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain teammate Neymar’s tally for Brazil. The 38-year-old provided an assist in each half for Argentina, bringing his total to 60 assists for La Albiceleste.
Messi now has one assist more than Neymar has managed for Brazil, having reached 60 assists in 194 appearances while also scoring 114 goals in those matches. Neymar, in contrast, achieved 59 assists in 128 games for the Selecao.
