Antonio Rüdiger has extended his stay at Real Madrid after signing a one-year contract extension that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until 2027.
The Spanish giants confirmed the agreement on Tuesday, ensuring the experienced Germany international remains a key part of their defensive plans beyond the current season. Rüdiger’s previous contract had been due to expire this summer.
Since arriving from Chelsea in 2022, the 33-year-old centre-back has established himself as one of Madrid’s most dependable performers. He has made 182 appearances for Los Blancos and helped the club secure eight trophies, including the 2024 La Liga title and UEFA Champions League crown.
Rüdiger’s renewal comes amid what is shaping up to be a major rebuilding summer at Madrid following two consecutive trophyless campaigns. The club has already appointed José Mourinho for a second spell as head coach after Álvaro Arbeloa’s departure and recently completed the signing of Spain international Marc Cucurella from Chelsea in a deal reportedly worth an initial €55 million.
Further reinforcements are expected, with reports linking Madrid to Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté, Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries and Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva.
Rüdiger’s career began at VfB Stuttgart before he moved to Roma in 2015, initially on loan before making the switch permanent. He joined Chelsea in 2017 and enjoyed considerable success in England, culminating in Champions League glory in 2021.
Since moving to Madrid, he has been a consistent presence in defence under several managers, playing a central role in the club’s domestic and European successes.
The contract extension underlines Madrid’s continued faith in the veteran defender as they prepare for another ambitious campaign at home and abroad.
