As the biggest street Africa street party, Carnival Calabar clocks 20 years of existence, the Cross River State governor, Bassey Otu, on Sunday unveiled this year’s theme, themed “Traces of Time,” marking the 20th anniversary, and celebrating two decades of cultural excellence and glamour.

Flagging off the ceremony in Calabar was a colourful ceremony attended by dignitaries, including the Governor, the senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial district, Jonah Eteng Williams, and Gov Otu’s wife, Rev. (Mrs.) Eyoanwan Otu, among others.

The governor expressed joy over the coincidence of the anniversary and a reconciliation ceremony, describing it as “divine and symbolic”.

He welcomed everyone to Calabar to enjoy the party and stated that the theme captured the carnival’s evolution and legacy.

The First Lady emphasised the importance of reconciliation, peace, and unity, while the governor invited the world to Calabar for the December festival, featuring processions, music, and cultural heritage displays.

The celebration promises to be a grand commemoration of 20 years of cultural splendour and creativity.
