Notable stakeholders in the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office. They urged him to contest the 2027 presidential election.

The endorsement came during the APC Stakeholders’ Forum 2025, held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The high-profile gathering drew thousands of party leaders and members, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former governors Babatunde Fashola and Akinwunmi Ambode, Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat and his wife Oluremi, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, members of the APC National and State Working Committees, federal and state lawmakers, political appointees, council chairmen, traditional rulers, and representatives of youth, women, religious and student groups.

The motion endorsing President Tinubu was moved by the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, who spoke on behalf of Lagos traditional rulers and stakeholders.

It was seconded by Speaker Obasa, following overwhelming support from all party segments in attendance.

“We endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to go for a second term,” Oba Shotobi declared. Supporting the motion. In view of the submissions made by all the stakeholders, I hereby second the motion on behalf of the people of Lagos State,” Obasa added.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his address, emphasised Tinubu’s legacy and fulfilment of campaign promises, noting that the president deserves continued support.

“Our president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, once served as the 12th Governor of Lagos State. Today, stakeholders from all state sectors have unanimously agreed to endorse him for a second term. We believe this message will reach Aso Rock and resonate across the country,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat echoed the call for continuity, highlighting President Tinubu’s reform agenda and commitment to economic recovery and national transformation.

“As loyal members of the APC family in Lagos State, we endorse and support his leadership at the federal level for a second term. It is our collective interest to build on the achievements already made,” Hamzat said.

He also praised Governor Sanwo-Olu’s performance over the past six years, crediting the THEMES+ Agenda for the state’s transportation, health, education, security, and urban infrastructure development.

Former Governor Fashola, who delivered a lecture titled “Voter Apathy and the Sanctity of Elections in Nigeria’s Budding Democracy,” urged stakeholders to mobilise citizens—especially the youth—to participate actively in the electoral process.

Fashola raised concerns over declining voter engagement, pointing out that only 30% of Nigeria’s 93 million registered voters participated in the 2023 elections.

“Enthusiasm drives political participation. If people are hopeful, they will come out to vote. We must turn this renewed hope into tangible action for our party and its programmes,” he said.

The forum ended with a strong call for unity among APC members across all levels in Lagos State, as stakeholders committed to working collectively towards Tinubu’s re-election and the party’s continued success.
