A 17-year-old admission seeker, Emmanuel, has been kidnapped in Obiaruku, Delta State, and his abductors have demanded a whopping N20m ransom from his family.

Harrison Gwamnishu of Safe City Volunteer Foundation, who disclosed this via his Facebook post, said the victim “travelled from Lagos State to Obiaruku, Delta State for his Post-UTME Exam,” when he was kidnapped.

According to the post, Emmanuel was kidnapped along with two others.

He added: “The kidnappers are demanding a #20 million ransom for Emmanuel-an amount far beyond the reach of his struggling family, who have never seen such money in their entire lives.”

Gwamnishu appealed to stakeholders, security agencies, and well-meaning Deltans to urgently step in and help secure the release of the “innocent young boy” and “support his devastated family.”

Meanwhile, the Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a police officer captured in a viral video recklessly firing at a moving vehicle in Asaba.

The incident, which sparked widespread public outrage, has prompted swift disciplinary action from the command’s leadership.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), SP Edafe Bright, the Command described the officer’s conduct as “unprofessional and grossly unbecoming of a law enforcement agent.”

According to the statement, a preliminary examination of the video established that the officer violated Force Order 237, which strictly governs the use of firearms by police personnel.

“No policeman has the right to use his firearm without recourse to Force Order 237. The duty of every Nigerian police officer is to protect lives and property, not endanger them,” the statement read.

The erring officer, whose identity has been confirmed, has since been detained at the Command Headquarters in Asaba.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has directed that an immediate internal investigation and disciplinary process be initiated.
