Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has said the government will demolish any school building in the state that fails an integrity test without delay.

Otti stated this during his monthly media briefing tagged “Governor Otti Speaks to Abians” for the month of October in Umuahia, the state capital.
He explained that the move is aimed at protecting pupils and students, as well as creating safer learning environments across communities. ‎ ‎

According to him, over 5,000 newly recruited teachers by his administration have resumed duties, while another 4,000 are expected to be engaged soon.

He added that many schools were being upgraded into smart learning centres, while teachers were undergoing digital training to enhance classroom outcomes.

Meanwhile, the Nina Angels Smiles Foundation, founded by Lady Nnenna Okonkwo, a philanthropist, has donated various items to the Girls’ Secondary Commercial School, Aba.

The items, which were handed over by the US-based philanthropist and old student of the school, include 30 desks, 20 sets of lockers and stools, two marker boards, and sanitary pads, among others. ‎ ‎
Represented by the state representative of the foundation, Sandra Onuoha, Lady Okonkwo said she was giving back to her alma mater and partnering with the government to reposition education in the state.
Responding on behalf of the school’s management, the Principal of the Junior Secondary School, Ogbonne Ezuoke, lauded the old student for her kind gesture. ‎ ‎Ezuoke, who urged other alumni of the school to emulate “the shining ambassador of the school”, assured that the donated items would be properly and maximally utilised.
