Food Sufficiency: Ebonyi Govt Develops 50 Hectares Of Farmland For Farmers

Ebonyi State commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Princess Nkechinyere Iyoku, has said the state government has developed 50 hectares of farmland to attain food sufficiency and boost its agriculture revolution.

Iyioku disclosed this during her appearance before the state House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts in Abakaliki, the state capital.

She said that in addition to the hectares of land developed for farmers’ access, the ministry had commenced the construction of Ebonyi State’s Modern Animal Feed Mill and revived the State Fertiliser and Chemical Company Ltd to produce various fertilisers.

The commissioner said the acquisition of combine harvester equipment, the provision of 15 units of motorcycles for agriculture extension agents, the construction of market stores in designated IFAD Programme, youth and women empowerment programme and the distribution of various agricultural inputs and services had helped to crash food prices in the state.
