A Zamfara State government official has taken a bold step towards supporting the less privileged in his community. Hon Aliyu Adamu Barmo, Special Assistant on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has sacrificed 50% of his monthly salary to provide support to vulnerable individuals in Tsafe local government area.

As part of his initiatives, Barmo has introduced a free transportation service for residents of the local government, with two buses operating from Gusau to Tsafe, Monday to Friday. Additionally, he has promised to provide monthly financial support to at least five individuals conducting small-scale and medium businesses in the community to improve their livelihoods.

The initiative is part of the office of the wife of Zamfara State Governor’s food distribution programme for 350 vulnerable individuals in Tsafe local government area. The beneficiaries, selected from the 10 wards of the local government, received packs of assorted food items.

Barmo said, “I have decided to sacrifice 50% of my monthly salary to provide support to our people. All the support and palliative given is in line with our capacity Governor Lawal’s campaign and mandate for improving the wellbeing of our people.”

The Peoples Democratic Party woman leader, Hajiya Turai Tsafe, commended Barmo for his kindness, urging other party officials to emulate his example. “I urge other party officials holding political offices to emulate such kindness to the poor and vulnerable in the local government,” she said.

The PDP state assistant financial secretary, Alhaji Idris Market, praised Barmo’s efforts, saying, “Barmo has embarked on campaigning for people’s support for Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration and has sacrificed his wealth to improve unity among party members in the local government.”
