Bauchi Assembly Writes Senate

The Bauchi State House of Assembly (BAHA) has passed a bill into law for the creation of an additional 29 local government areas in the state to deepen grassroots inclusion and development.

This is contained in a letter addressed to the chairman, Senate Committee on Constitution Review, Sen. Barau Jibrin, dated 29th October 2025 and signed by the acting deputy clerk of the House, Musa Yerima.

“The additional Local Governments listed in Schedule II of this law attached are inchoate until the National Assembly shall pass an act to make consequential provisions with respect to the names of the said additional local governments as provided for under Section 8 (5) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The said Law is hereby forwarded to the Chairman, Joint Committee on Constitution Review Committee, National Assembly, for further necessary action, please,” the letter reads in part.

LEADERSHIP reports that Bauchi currently has 20 local government areas.

Names of the proposed 29 additional local governments include Balma, Bauchi East, Bauchi West, Beshongo, Bula, Burra, Chinade, Dagadua-Jalam, Disina, Dogon-Jeji/Jurara, Dass West, Gadau, Galambi, Ganjuwa East, Girawa, Gwalolo, Gwana, and Isawa.
