The Bauchi State Fire Service has uncovered that arson was behind the recent fire outbreak that destroyed buildings at the Bill and Melinda Gates College of Health, Ningi.

During a post-incident inspection visit to the college, acting director of the Bauchi State Fire Service, Builder Dauda Bala Pali, revealed that investigators found matches and hand gloves at the scene of the blaze, items he described as “highly suspicious” and potentially indicative of arson.

The fire, which tore through the college premises, destroyed valuable property, medical equipment, and learning materials, leaving students and staff in shock and uncertainty.

Speaking exclusively to our correspondent, Builder Pali said the discovery was made as part of a damage assessment mission led by the Fire Service to determine the cause of the inferno and to promote proactive fire safety measures in institutions across the state.

“Our team discovered matches and hand gloves within the affected area, and this raises serious concerns about the possibility of human involvement.

“We are working closely with relevant authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and to prevent such incidents in the future,” he said.

The revelation has sparked widespread concern among residents and stakeholders, with many calling for a comprehensive security review at the Bill and Melinda Gates College of Health.
