Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State says by next week, he will put an end to the rumour of his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), by making it a reality for the unity and progress of the state.

The governor stated this on Tuesday at an expanded meeting with all critical stakeholders of the PDP and APC, encompassing the 16 local governments of the state, at the Banquet Hall in TY Danjuma House, Jalingo.

The intending bride to the ruling party, who thanked APC members for preserving the party as an option for him, said he would be just and fair to all citizens of the state in delivering governance that is deserving of the people.

The meeting had in attendance the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari, HE Jolly Nyame, the former Governor of Taraba State, the North East National Vice Chairman of the APC, Dr Mustapha Salihu, Deputy National Women Leader, Hajia Zainab Ibrahim, Taraba State APC Chairman, Barriers Ibrahim El-Sudi, and TETFund Board Member, Sani Danladi, among other personalities.

Governor Kefas, firstly, thanked God for keeping him to look towards the Taraba of our dream and also thanked “members of the APC who have been working very hard to keep this party that is marking it as an option for us.

“What I am seeing today is that history is repeating itself, where Taraba will be one. Every one of us here has worked, both in PDP and in APC, and my prayer has always been for unity, peace, and progress.

The governor also thanked God for giving him the leadership of the state, and assured “everyone of you, that I will provide you with, by the grace of God, the leadership that we both deserve.

“Yes! A rumour is indeed circulating, and I’m also hearing that rumour. Sometimes, when a rumour keeps moving like that, it makes somebody think that it is something good. I am also hearing that rumour, and I am working on it to see that it becomes a reality.

“So, by the grace of God, in a few days to come after next week, you will hear from me. Let’s continue to pray. I want to assure everyone here, whether you are from APC, PDP, or any other party, that we are committed to doing justice.

“Let’s forgive one another. Let us think about how we can move this state forward. Once I see unity and cooperation from all of us, trust me, I will give you what you deserve.

The North East National Vice Chairman of the APC, Dr Mustapha Salihu, was pleased with the meeting, which aimed to bridge the gap and bring all stakeholders together.

He said that if the governor’s dream becomes a reality, Taraba will no longer receive peanuts from the federal government, and commended the governor for considering the interests of the people and the Development of Taraba.

The Deputy National Women Leader, Hajia Zainab Ibrahim, was optimistic that Taraba would now enjoy all the benefits as other states with the ruling party at the centre, saying that the state would no longer be an orphan for putting the people’s interests first.

The Taraba State APC Chairman, Barrister Ibrahim, called on Governor Kefas to be inclusive in governance, should the rumour become a reality, saying that APC members were committed to the party’s course over the past 13 years.

He said it will be their joy that the state be one, undivided, and without any differences.
