The Member representing Borgu and Agwara Federal Constituency, Honourable Jafaru Mohammed Ali, narrowly escaped abduction by Bandits along Wawa-Luma-Agwara -Babanna Road in Agwara local government area of Niger state.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the member was going to Agwara to see his constituents and attend an event in New Bussa the next day. Still, he was chased by the Bandits from Wawa up to Luma, about 30 km before security cover arrived.
It was learnt that the Bandits who chased him on a large number of motorcycles might have acted on information from informants about his movements.
The bandits, it was learnt, were shooting randomly at his car, but the driver was able to manoeuvre through the bad road.
A source hinted that the member travelled with only his driver, who used his knowledge of the road to escape to Luma from where the member mobilised for security coverage.
The source hinted further that the Bandits, who sensed the mobilisation of security personnel, immediately reverted back to their route into the large Kainji forest.
At the time of filing this report, it was unclear whether the member of the House of Representatives and the driver sustained any injuries in the process, but their telephone numbers could not be reached.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Niger State Command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that “report received indicated that the House of Representatives member Borgu/Agwara and his entourage were attacked at Audu-Fari village along Babana road by suspected bandits while on his way to Banana area”.
“However, the joint security team in the convoy responded, repelled and rescued the Hon member to safety, while some persons sustained injuries and they were taken to the hospital for medical treatment”.
