Ahead of Saturday November 8, 2025 governorship elections in Anambra State, Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, has deployed 500 officers and men from the state Command to ensure a hitch – free contest.
Addressing the personnel on Tuesday at Command’s Parade Ground, Ikot Akpanabia, Uyo, the state capital before their departure, CP Azare, warned them against corruption and unethical practices that could compromise the outcome of the exercise.
According to Azare, their conduct should be guided by the provisions of the nation’s constitution in the discharge of their duties, explaining that the temporary redeployment was in line with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun’s directive.
“Stick to your duties as enshrined in the constitution of Nigeria and Police Act and regulations.”
He said: “As I said, the Inspector General of Police will not tolerate any act of indiscipline and corruption while on this beat and beyond.
“So also , the command will not hesitate to take disciplinary action anyone that indulge in illegal activities.”
The commissioner urged the officers to be good ambassadors of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), adding that the Police Force remains a highly disciplined and ethical organisation.
“We have made adequate security arrangements to convey you to Anambra and also adequate security for your safety as you move on the road to Anambra. Cooperate with your Team Lead and make sure you don’t leave until the stand down order.
“Anyone of you that decided to leave before time will be sanctioned because you can not leave without instructions.
After the stand down , you fall in there, head count will commence . Once you are intact 500 of you will be conveyed back to Akwa Ibom. the Inspector General of Police has paid for all the expenses,” he assured.
