The Jigawa State Government has approved over N20 billion for the execution of projects in the education, security, and health sectors.
The State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport, and Culture, Honourable Sagir Musa, revealed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting.
He stated that the council approved N760 million for the purchase of 10 new Toyota Hilux vehicles and 50 motorcycles. These will be distributed to security agencies and the Hunters Association to strengthen security patrols and intelligence gathering across the state.
The Commissioner noted that the council also approved the sum of N14.22 billion for civil work and the supply of equipment to Technical and Vocational Training centres across the state.
He explained that this project is part of Governor Namadi’s policy to support a job-driven education system, produce human resources for small, medium, and large-scale enterprises, and foster industrial growth.
However Honourable Sagir revealed that the council approved N371 million for the construction of perimeter fencing and kitchens at three mega schools. This initiative aims to fortify security and create a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning at these centres.
“A sum of N3.67 billion was also approved for minor renovations and the supply of delivery kits, child health kits, and other related materials to 30 primary healthcare centres in the state,” he added.
According to the Commissioner, this health project is targeted at strengthening public primary healthcare service delivery to tackle the high rate of child and maternal mortality in the state.
He also reiterated the state government’s commitment to improving the social and economic lives of its people through the judicious use of all available resources.
