Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has announced the disbursement of over N2.2 billion to students and vulnerable families across the state under various educational support programmes.

Speaking during the symbolic cheque presentation at the Government House, Gombe, on Tuesday, the governor said the funds comprise a N1.5 billion scholarship payment to 18,750 students of Gombe State origin studying in different tertiary institutions and N726 million in conditional cash transfer and scholarship grants to 12,101 beneficiaries under the World Bank–supported AGILE initiative.

Governor Yahaya explained that the interventions aim to alleviate financial burdens on parents, encourage school enrolment, and provide youths with the tools to build a prosperous future. He added that the recent 100% increase in scholarship allowances demonstrates his administration’s unwavering belief in education as the foundation for sustainable growth.

“Our investment in education is an investment in the architects of tomorrow’s Gombe State. By supporting our students and their families, we are giving them the confidence and means to stay in school, excel in their studies, and contribute meaningfully to society.”

The governor emphasized that the scholarship and AGILE cash transfer programmes are part of an effort to enhance access to quality education, reduce dropout rates, and empower young people through inclusive governance, adding that the initiatives align with his administration’s vision of bridging generations through purposeful leadership and targeted social investment.

Governor Yahaya urged beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunity by prioritizing their studies and striving for excellence.

He also expressed gratitude to the World Bank, local education authorities, and community stakeholders for their continued partnership in transforming the education sector.

The governor concluded by reaffirming his administration’s resolve to create a generation of empowered, educated, and self-reliant youths who will drive Gombe State’s progress in the years ahead.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with LEADERSHIP expressed deep gratitude to the governor for what they described as the life-changing support.

Abubakar Yaya Mohammad, the president Student Representatives Council (SRC) Gombe State University chapter, described it as a timely relief that would ease financial pressure on their parents and motivate them to pursue their education with renewed determination.
