The crisis-ridden Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has provided graphic details of how its suspended National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, allegedly led thugs to break into the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Monday.
Recall that the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) led by the national chairman, Amb. Iliya Damagum, had last week suspended Anyanwu and others from the party over alleged anti-party activities.
But, Anyanwu, at a different gathering, also issued a counter-suspension order against Damagum and others, announcing the party’s National Vice Chairman (North-Central) Mohammed Abdulrahman, as the new Acting National Chairman of the party.
Consequently, on Monday, Anyanwu led Abdulrahman in company of protesters to take over the PDP national secretariat purportedly as new leaders of the party.
However, the Damagum-led PDP, on Thursday, said CCTV footage has exposed the suspended National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and an alleged thug leader, Emmanuel Okoronkwo, as leading the break-in at Wadata Plaza national secretariat of the party.
Taking to its verified Facebook page, the PDP wrote: “In a damning development that has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s political landscape, closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage has emerged exposing Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the suspended National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and his notorious head of thugs, Emmanuel Okoronkwo, orchestrating a brazen break-in at the party’s National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza.
“The graphic video shows Anyanwu – dressed in a signature white caftan – and Okoronkwo, clad in a grey jacket with a face cap pulled low, alongside a gang of hooded hoodlums, forcing entry into key administrative offices during the invasion.
The footage, independently verified by PDP loyalists and “shared widely on social media under #WadataInvasion, captures the group smashing locks and breaking doors at the Party’s National Secretariat.
“Security sources confirm the intrusion was aimed at disrupting preparations for the convention, in a desperate bid to sow chaos and derail the party’s unity drive.”
