Anti – robbery operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have smashed a notorious armed robbery syndicate alleged to have been terrorising parts of the state especially Essien Udim, Ikot Ekpene and Obot Akara local government areas perpetrating armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, who disclosed this to journalists at the state Command headquarters, Ikot Akpanabia, Uyo, on Monday, said the achievements were possible because of the pro-active and intelligence- led policing strategy of the commissioner of Police (CP), Baba Azare.
“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command in its relentless effort to rid the state of criminally- minded elements, has successfully dismantled a three-man armed robbery syndicate and recovered arms and ammunition.
“On Friday, November 7, 2025, at approximately 20:00 hours, Police operatives acting on credible intelligence apprehended two suspects at a native doctor’s residence in Ikot Ineme village,” the Police Spokesperson recalled.
The operation, according to her, led to the arrest of three suspects, identified as Akan Udo, 40 years, of Ikot Edem Udo village and Namso Monday, 20 years of Ikot Umo Essien Odoro Ikot village, stating that “they were arrested while receiving treatment for undisclosed ailments at a native doctor’s shrine.
She explained that efforts were on to arrest the fleeing native doctor, who is suspected of aiding the criminal gang, but currently at large.
“During the subsequent investigation, a third suspect was identified and arrested in connection with the same armed robbery incident. He was identified as Mbata Udo, 40 years of Ikot Ukpong Offiong village,” she stressed.
The PPRO identified incriminating items recovered to include, one locally -made pistol, one locally – made revolver pistol, 16 machetes, 6 mobile phones, 2 big generators, one battle Axe, one plier and other dangerous weapons.
“Investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged to Court upon completion. The CP has commended the officers for their diligence and reaffirms the Command’s unwavering commitment to flushing out criminal elements and ensuring the safety of all residents,” she stressed.
