The leaders of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State have raised the alarm over an alleged plot to overturn the outcome of last Saturday’s governorship primary won by Dr. Wole Oluyede.
The party leaders who cautioned against the alleged move, appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde and other PDP national leaders to stop those they called enemies of the party from denying the people their choice.
The concerned Ekiti PDP leaders who raised the alarm include former deputy governorship candidate of the party, Hon. Deji Ogunsakin; former House of Representatives member, Hon. Segun Adeola; former chairman of the party in the state Makanjuola Ogundipe; and former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kola Oluwawole.
They made their appeal to the party leaders during a press conference held at the party secretariat in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
They stated that Dr. Oluyede, is the choice of the people, saying “we have decided to win the 2026 June 20 governorship election in Ekiti”
The PDP leaders described those planning and making the move to upturn the primary election which, they said, was a free, fair and credible election as enemies of the people.
“Enough is enough. We do not want anybody to sell us cheaply to the APC. APC is aware that we have chosen a credible candidate that can win the 2026 election for us, that is Dr. Wole Oluyede, who won the PDP primary.
“They are trying to upturn the results in favour of somebody that was not accepted at the polls.
“The people have voted, they voted for their conscience. They voted for the man they believed in who can give the PDP victory at the polls.
“The election was conducted and the results were announced by Sen. Ibrahim Dankwabo, former Governor, former Accountant General of the Federation,AGF, under a peaceful and credible atmosphere”.
The Ekiti PDP leaders called on Governor Makinde and the National leaders of the party not to listen to those they branded as enemies of the PDP who are bent on destroying the party regarding the issue.
Meanwhile, the candidate of the PDP, Dr. Oluyede, has started reconcile moves with other aspirants by paying a visit to one of the contestants at the primary election, Mrs. Funmilayo Ogun.
Oluyede described her as a sister and a formidable politician, who loves the party.
Ogun, while reacting, said her actions were to promote peace so that the PDP can remain strong and win the governorship next year in Ekiti.
