The Katsina State Police Command has dismissed as false and mischievous, a viral social media report alleging that Nana Abraham, a player of Barau FC, was slaughtered by fans of Katsina United FC during a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Week 12 match at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, police described the report as “entirely untrue, mischievous, and a calculated attempt to breach the peace being enjoyed in the state.”
According to the police, Abraham is safe and accounted for, and preliminary investigations confirmed that there was no physical confrontation between fans, players, or officials before, during, or after the match.
The PPRO attributed this to the adequate security measures put in place by security operatives ahead of the match.
The Command further explained that the NPFL management had reviewed the match and sanctioned Katsina United FC for certain offences, but maintained that no record of violence or death involving any player was discovered.
“We warn mischief makers to desist from spreading false information, as such actions are punishable by law. The Command will not hesitate to track down and prosecute anyone found guilty of circulating fake news capable of disrupting public peace”, the Command warned.
DSP Aliyu urged the public to disregard the fake report and rely only on verified information from credible sources.
He assured residents that under the leadership of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, police are fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across the state.
