Governors Fintiri, Buni, Zulum Meet New World Bank Country Director

Adamawa State Governor Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, alongside Governors Professor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno and Hon. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, on Monday paid a familiarization visit to the new World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Mr. Matthew Verghis, in Abuja.

The visit aimed to strengthen the existing partnership for development and stabilization in the North East.
Governor Zulum welcomed the new Director, highlighting the Bank’s vital role in post-insurgency recovery and emphasizing the need for stronger coordination to enhance project impact.

Governors Fintiri and Buni commended the World Bank’s interventions in the region and outlined priority areas for deeper collaboration, calling for targeted support to sectors that directly affect communities rebuilding after years of insurgency.

Mr. Verghis thanked the Governors for the visit and reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to working closely with state governments to achieve sustainable development outcomes in the North East.
Governor Zulum was accompanied by key project coordinators, including Aishatu Musa Sheikh (Nigeria for Women Program), Dr. Aliyu Umar Bashir (SPIN Project), and Hajiya Maryam Shehu.
Adamawa Government Conducts Damage Assessment in Lamurde Communities

The Adamawa State Government has conducted a comprehensive damage assessment in communities affected by recent communal clashes in Lamurde Local Government Area.

The assessment, carried out by the Ministry for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Reintegration and Humanitarian Services (RRR), aims to evaluate the extent of destruction and provide appropriate support to affected communities.

Leading the exercise, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Pharmacist Amos Enoch Piribu, visited Waduku and Rugange Wards, where significant damage to homes, farmlands, and community infrastructure was recorded.

Pharmacist Piribu reaffirmed Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s commitment to assisting affected residents and rebuilding their livelihoods. He noted that the assessment would guide fair and effective distribution of relief materials and rehabilitation support.

He also urged residents to remain peaceful and united, emphasizing that lasting peace is vital for sustainable development.

Community leaders in Waduku and Rugange thanked the state government for the prompt intervention, describing the visit as a demonstration of the administration’s empathy and concern for citizens’ welfare.

The assessment exercise underscores the Fintiri administration’s proactive approach to rebuilding communities and promoting peace across Adamawa State.
