The Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, has resigned his appointment to contest the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Osun State scheduled for December 13, 2025.

Oyebamiji, who confirmed his resignation on Friday, said the decision was made in full compliance with Nigeria’s Electoral Act, which mandates political appointees seeking elective office to step down ahead of party primaries.

“Yes, I have resigned in accordance with the electoral law to pursue my Osun 2026 governorship ambition,” he stated.

He deeply appreciated President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, for the trust and opportunity to serve the nation.

Oyebamiji noted that his appointment as substantive MD/CEO of NIWA in October 2023 came following a strong recommendation by Oyetola.

He acknowledged receiving unwavering support from President Tinubu and Oyetola throughout his two-year stewardship at the helm of the waterways authority.

He affirmed that his vision for the 2026 governorship race is centred on placing Osun on a path of sustainable economic prosperity that will benefit both the present and future generations.
