Some prominent Nigerians including Prof. Pat Utomi, Femi Falana and Oby Ezekwesili have launched a new movement aimed at ensuring credible elections in 2027. The Movement for Credible Elections (MCE) was launched at the National Political Summit held in Abuja on Friday with the theme; “Critical and Mandatory Constitutional Amendments for Credible Elections in 2027.”

The summit, convened by the National Consultative Front (NCFront) and Labour & Civil Society Front (LCSF) brought together over 600 participants and delegates from various sectors.

The MCE, led by an interim steering leadership, in a draft communique made several key recommendations including granting INEC full financial autonomy, implementing an open budget framework, and empowering INEC to prosecute electoral offenders independently.

“The group aims is to mobilise Nigerians to end election rigging and manipulation and reform electoral laws to guarantee credible elections in 2027,” they said.

They also called for measures such as early voting, diaspora voting, electronic voting, and real-time electronic transmission of results.
