A former governor of Abia State and senator for Abia Central, T.A. Orji, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In the resignation letter addressed to the PDP Ward 1 chairman in Umuahia North local government area of Abia State, Orji said his withdrawal was with immediate effect.

According to the letter, which did not indicate his next move, the decision followed “wide consultations with family and associates.”

“I write to formally tender my resignation from membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) effective immediately,” the letter read.

“I appreciate the opportunities and experiences gained during my time as a member of the party. Please accept this letter as a formal notice of my withdrawal from the party,”

Orji came to limelight in the state in 1999 when the second civilian governor of the state, Orji Uzor Kalu appointed him as his chief of staff.
