The Ogun State Police Command announced on Tuesday that its operatives have arrested a 24-year-old Sulaiman Laja, an alleged key member of the notorious Aiye Confraternity.
Laja was apprehended during an operation in Igbesa, Ado-Odo/Ota local government area of the state.
Confirming the arrest in a statement, the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, said the dreaded Aiye confraternity member was apprehended by police operatives in Igbesa.
“The Divisional Police Officer, Igbesa Division, has been commended for the successful arrest of Sulaiman Laja ‘m’, 24 years, a confessed and notorious Aiye cultist who has been terrorising residents of Igbesa and its environs,” Odutola said.
The Police spokesperson explained that the suspect, who was initially spotted in disguise, was trailed to his hideout.
Odutola said a search of the premises led to the recovery of “a serviceable single-barrel gun, strongly believed to have been used for criminal activities within the community.”
“He admitted to being an active member of the Aiye cult group and provided useful information identifying other fleeing members of the gang. A manhunt has since commenced to ensure their swift arrest,” Odutola said.
The police spokesperson noted that the suspect and the recovered items will be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
The Command reassured residents of police dedication to eliminating criminal elements and restoring peace and public confidence across Ogun State.
