The Ogun State Joint Campus Committee (JCC) of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has publicly disowned the Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor on Students’ Matters, Comrade Adeyemi Azeez Amoo, accusing him of impersonation, misrepresentation, and diversion of welfare items meant for students.

The allegations were made on Wednesday during a press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, Abeokuta.

Addressing journalists, the Chairman of NANS Ogun JCC, Comrade Gabriel Abiola Francis, commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for his continued support to the student community but alleged that allocations and welfare items previously released to students were diverted under the supervision of the governor’s aide. He said many students were misled into believing that key government officials blocked the release of palliatives.

Francis stated that the association does not recognize Azeez in any capacity within NANS, accusing him of issuing unauthorized letters, misleading stakeholders, creating divisions between the association and senior government officials, and parading former NANS executives as current office holders.

He further alleged that Azeez intimidated heads of institutions, instigated confrontations involving student leaders, and orchestrated disruptions in campuses, including Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY).

The association also accused the governor’s aide of diverting palliatives and welfare items meant for Union Presidents and other recognized student leaders while falsely claiming that government officials—including the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, and Commissioner for Education—blocked their release.

NANS further condemned Azeez’s alleged intimidation of heads of tertiary institutions and his reported use of the governor’s name to enforce compliance. They cited incidents where he allegedly misled student leaders into attacking top government officials and traditional rulers, including Senator Shuaibu Salisu and the Secretary to the State Government.

The leadership also highlighted claims of orchestrated violence, harassment of student leaders, and issuance of deceptive letters to institutions under the guise of organizing students’ engagements for personal gain.

According to the association, Azeez remains a political appointee and should not be recognized as a representative of the Ogun NANS axis. They called on security agencies, including the DSS and the police, to investigate past attacks on student leaders and other alleged abuses of power.

Francis further raised concerns about alleged threats to his life and that of other student leaders for insisting on transparency and truth, appealing to security agencies to ensure their protection.

The press conference was jointly signed by NANS JCC leadership, including the Chairman and Secretary and eight of the twelve recognized Students’ Union Presidents in the state, which includes, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Gateway ICT Polytechnic Saapade, D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Federal College of Education Abeokuta, Tai Solarin University of Education, and others.
