Abia State government has announced the signing of 1,778 Certificates of Occupancy (Cs of O) in 2025, representing the highest since 1999.
The commissioner for Lands, Chaka Chukwumereije, said this in Umuahia, the state capital, yesterday, while briefing journalists on the ministry’s various achievements.
Chukwumereije stated that the achievements include the flagging-off of Phase 11 of the public sensitisation of the ministry’s “Get your C of O in 30 days Initiative.”
“In flagging-off this initiative, we also report on how we have fared so far in our C of O in 30 days drive-plus, also give an update on our various aspects of land administration,” he noted.
Speaking further on the achievements, the commissioner explained that since the inception of the administration, the governor, Alex Otti, had signed a total of 3,256 Cs of O.
Thus, the number signed within the two years of the administration is higher than the total number signed in the last seven years before the inception of the administration.”
He said, as the state is set to carry out its groundbreaking of several housing projects and commence fresh land allocation, the initiative gives an added value to land and property.
We have stepped up our enforcement of the payment of various statutory dues such as ground rents, and changes to the purpose clause following waivers granted on enforcement by Otti in 2023 and 2024.”
The permanent secretary of the ministry, Ukeju Ukpabi, expressed delight with the ongoing transformations in the ministry, noting that they would be sustained.
He lauded both the governor and the commissioner for initiating the transformation, adding that members of staff are committed to assuring their success.
