The Kebbi All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Forum has criticised the Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for its comments regarding the rescue operation involving 24 female students abducted from Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State.

In a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi and signed by its Chairman, Comrade Nasiru Maga, the forum described the Zamfara PDP’s remarks as insensitive and unfair. The group faulted the party for condemning the deployment of the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, to coordinate efforts to free the kidnapped students.

The youths said the PDP’s statement amounted to politicising a matter of national security, especially at a time when the affected families remain traumatised.

“While our daughters are spending another terrifying night in captivity, they are busy crafting press statements to undermine the rescue mission simply because the person leading it is their political rival,” the statement read.

The forum further alleged that some political actors are attempting to create pressure on President Bola Tinubu to remove Dr. Matawalle from office “out of jealousy and bitterness”.

It commended the President for suspending his planned trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa immediately after receiving news of the abduction, describing his intervention as timely and reassuring.

Expressing confidence in the Defence Minister, the youths said they believe Matawalle’s experience in tackling banditry as a former Zamfara governor will contribute significantly to securing the release of the abducted students.

“We remain confident that Dr. Bello Matawalle will bring our 24 daughters home alive. No amount of distraction from failed politicians will derail his efforts,” the group stated.
