Leaders Urged To Unite, Build Prosperous Nation

The Association of Yoruba Traditional Leaders/Obas in the 19 Northern states and the FCT has called on Christians and Muslims to pray for peace to build a United, prosperous nation.

In a statement issued in Abuja yesterday, by the General Secretary of the association, Alhaji Abdulrahim Juma Yusuf Alao, Oba Yoruba of Gombe, he emphasised that Nigeria continued to grapple with palpable and widespread security threats affecting citizens irrespective of tribe, religion, region, or social class.

He said,” The menace cuts across all communities, and it is clear that criminality—not ethnicity or faith—is at the heart of these challenges.

“We acknowledge that the Federal Government and security agencies remain committed and relentless in tackling these threats. With sustained public support, collaboration, and prayers, we believe the nation will ultimately triumph over those who threaten its peace.”

The Group affirmed that there was no deliberate, conscious, or state-sponsored plan targeting any religion or its adherents for genocide in Nigeria.

“The violence experienced in various regions is the handiwork of criminal groups and enemies of society, who must be uniformly condemned and confronted—regardless of the victims’ identity’’, he said.

The group further lauded President Donald Trump regarding Nigeria’s security situation. According to the group, insecurity anywhere in the world is indeed a concern everywhere, stating that such concerns must be based on accurate insights, balanced analysis, and a deep understanding of Nigeria’s complex security dynamics.

The association said, ‘We reiterate that Nigeria values constructive partnerships with all friendly nations, including the United States. Such cooperation, however, must be collaborative and • mutually respectful, in line with the principles of the UN Charter, especially sovereign equality and non-interference in the internal affairs of member states.

“In these challenging times, we urge all Nigerians—regardless of ethnicity, faith, or political leaning—to remain united.

Only together can we defeat the hydra-headed monster of insecurity, safeguard our nation’s dignity, and build an enduring legacy of peace, development, and progress for generations to come.”

The group further called on national and international commentators, leaders, and influencers to address Nigeria’s issues with adequate knowledge, unbiased perspectives, and constructive intentions.

It concluded by calling on all levels of government and their security command structures to strengthen and coordinate efforts to address the nation’s security challenges decisively.
